Tribute to Bob Devlin (1951-2024)

Bob Devlin, a friend of so many and a passionate member of the Harpers Ferry Men’s Cooking Club, fought a brave, good fight.  He is survived by his children, John, Jim, and Margaret, and his wife of 43 years, Christel, who, according to legend, Bob proposed to at first sight.

Bob was a native of Ho-Ho-Kus, New Jersey, where, as a young man, he developed an avid passion for sailing.  Bob did stints as a fireman for the Erie-Lackawanna RR, a typesetter, and an electrician’s apprentice.  He graduated from Vanderbilt University and worked as a computer programmer for the Metro-North RR in New York.

Bob’s favorite passion was the HF Men’s Cooking Club.  He served the club and his family with many delightful dishes.  He loved golf and was a favorite partner of the men’s seniors at Cress Creek CC.  Bob was a model railroader, a reader of Latin poetry, and a big Bob Dillon fan.  He had a fondness for his canine pets.

Bob was a parishioner and a chalice bearer for the Trinity Episcopal Church in Shepherdstown.

Thanks to Chris Giese for this remembrance.

A memorial service will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church on July 9, 2024, at 11:00 AM.
