Refining the Culinary Arts for Over 68 Years

The Harpers Ferry Cooking Club was founded in 1955 with its first meeting on October 27. It was organized by Robert Leonard, Howard Koonce, Lloyd Hough, and William Reed as charter members. It is incorporated as a nonprofit organization under the laws of West Virginia.

The purposes of the Club are two fold:

  • first, to provide an opportunity for the membership to exercise skills in the culinary arts and,
  • second, to provide an atmosphere of good fellowship for enjoying and enhancing these skills.

Meetings are for members and their guests only on the last Wednesday of each month. The Club currently meets at Trinity Episcopal Parish Hall in Shepherdstown. Cocktails begin at 6:30 pm and dinner is served at 7:15 pm.

On Wednesday, May 27, 2022, the Harpers Ferry Cooking Club celebrated its 800th consecutive (without interruption) monthly dinner. During the era of COVID, the club met every month over Zoom, with an official toast, to keep the streak unbroken.
